Generous Guernsey Responds To Refugee Crisis – Here’s How You Can Help
Huge response to appeal already – and you can help by dropping donations of clothing and other essentials to help refugees in Calais to 7dayselfstore in the Pitronnerie Road industrial estate in St Peter Port at set times.
We have all seen the pictures and news stories about the refugee crisis on our doorstep, and we at 7dayselfstore.com – as a locally based community-focused business – felt we should do our bit to help.
So, we have donated a unit to charity organiser Sarah Griffith and her team at GuernseyBridge2Calais for the next 8 weeks so they can collect and sort out donations.
Donation drop-off times
We have already seen a huge response to the appeal, with donations coming in thick and fast to our self store thanks to generous islanders and families dropping off amazing amount of things during the first drop-off time.
“I just don’t like to see anybody cold and wet, and in distress. It is just nice to help people,” said one person.
To assist the appeal, we have organised specific times to drop off donations between 5 and 6pm on Saturday and Sundays before Sarah and her team head off to Calais on 9 November.
There is also an additional one-off drop-off tonight (Wednesday 9 September 2015) between 5pm and 6pm.
7dayselfstore is based on the Pitronnerie Road industrial estate in St Peter Port. We are behind Target Targets and next to Sidlocks. We also have plenty of parking.

What is needed?
Sarah Griffith explained that sleeping bags, tents, clean and warm clothing – such as jackets – were among the items desperately needed by refugees.
Here’s a list of other essentials and useful information (click on the image to expand):
She also thanked 7dayselfstore for working with her, saying: “I needed a store. I am thrilled, I am really grateful.” Of course, 7dayselfstore is proud to be part of this Guernsey charity effort.
